I am excited to announce that we just bought a piece by artist Ryan Sarah Murphy. Rob found her work on The Drawing Center website and we became very intrigued by her sculptural collages. They are made from found and collected cardboard, which is cut and intricately layered to make abstract, 3-dimensional forms.
This piece is called, “The Set State” and is now hanging in our bedroom, across from our bed. We love the colors and the architectural quality of this and her other pieces. For over a year, we have been trying to figure out what to hang in this spot. We’ve tried a few other things first, but they were too heavy, too loud. This is exactly right.
Murphy, who hails from New Hampshire, now lives and has a studio in East Harlem. This is one of her smaller pieces. Many of Murphy’s other works are larger and more intricate. If you’d like to see more of her work in person, five of her pieces are currently on display at exhibit 23, an experimental art space in Valley Cottage right next to Nyack.
Yes, you read that right: an experimental art space in Valley Cottage. The inaugural show is running Saturdays and Sundays 2-5 pm through the end of October. Also on display is the work of contemporary artists Robert Walden and Robert Strati.
I highly recommend that you stop by!

Yes.
Wonderful.
Her art is wonderful and she happens to be as well.
Well…the aqua marine color is just to die for…:-) Glad to know people/artists are doing something with cardboard. A much under used resource.
Hope I do not miss the exhibit at VC.
Yes, you will love her colors! J
