Well, it’s a crazy thing to do, especially at this age, and especially after not having any for so long, but we are getting a roommate!
We don’t know much about him yet, but here’s what we do know:
- He’s moving in some time around Christmas.
- He promises to not take up too much space, at least at first.
- He will not be cleaning up after himself.
- He guarantees that he is going to be loud and keep us up at night as much as possible.
- We were not able to get any references on him but we do have a pretty solid lock on his DNA.
That’s right: Rob and I are having a baby!
Are we thrilled? Yes. Are we terrified? You bet. Are we having fun decorating his little corner of the world with modern, funky cuteness? Indeed.

Yay!!! You guys are going to be awesome parents! I can’t wait to meet him and see his funky new digs. Rob, you’re shrinking…you look great!
Thanks AM – we look forward to your advice and TLC (but I’ve been taking notes for years)! I know, go Rob! – He’s getting smaller while I get bigger, ha! 🙂
Yaaaaay! So excited for you guys. Just wondereing: what was the interview process like for this new roomate?
ha ha! Well, the interview process was interesting because he really is a man of few words. We just had to go with our gut, have a lot of faith, and trust that it would work out. I will say that he failed the credit check miserably 🙂
so excited for you both!you will be great parents!!
Thanks so much DVJ – hope our kid is half as cute and sweet as your two! 🙂
Sounds like a new book topic to me. Congratulations!
ha ha thanks Curt! yes, we’ll see – I am definitely taking notes on this crazy process 🙂
OH MY GOSH! Congratulations!!!!!!!
Thank you Victoria – big life change ahead! eek. 🙂
I bet you he wont be paying his share of the bills either.
We do, in fact, suspect that will be the case. We do have high hopes for him to chip in with lawn mowing and snow removal, as soon as he learns to walk, is that realistic? 🙂
NO!
Well, that might be harsh. Give it a dozen years or so. At least, that’s what I keep telling myself.
Great picture! Will be so excited to hear that he has arrived!
Thank you! We took that last photo week – crazy to think that I’m going to get even bigger, yikes! 🙂
wowie zowie!!! congrats, you guys!!!! so much fun. 😀
Thanks so much, it has been fun. It has also been weird, and strange, and bizarre. Quite a bodily and mental adventure (and we’ve only just begun…) 🙂
You are good… I mean really GOOD… to keep a secret like that for so long!!! Baby, oh baby, that is exciting and FANTASTIC news. Congrats to you both. That is one lucky kid!
Let the modern, funky, cuteness BEGIN! (that includes him, of course…)
Thank you so much Stacey! Yup, this wasn’t easy to keep under wraps – but at first I was paranoid something might happen, then I was a little shy…and recently, well, it started to seem weird to NOT share the news. I finally “came out” on facebook too. I have a feeling we’re about to get our worlds rocked by this little dude. 🙂
What a fun way to announce the upcoming arrival of your new ‘roommate’
Congrats!!
Thanks! If I think of him as a roommate who just needs a lot of TLC I get a little less freaked out about the craziness ahead 🙂
Obviously we need to get together and catch up! So happy for both of you! And you look adorable:) Christmas is SoOOOOONNNN!! The gnomes will be jealous.
Ha ha, thank you Jen. Yes, we have been trying to figure out how to break this news to the gnomes…we realize that there may be some acting out and some temper tantrums, so we are trying to brace ourselves 🙂
Oh my goodness!!! Congrats on your little roommate!! I know of at least 4 people having a baby at the end of Dec and the beginning of Jan. There must be something in the water.
I can’t wait to see how you decorate his little corner of the world.
Yes, we know of a lot of babies on the way in Dec as well – there must have been something in the water in March – maybe it was the leprechans 🙂 You KNOW I’ll be doing a blog on the nursery…we still need a few finishing touches…
How exciting! Congratulations to you and Rob! Just pretend that the neglected laundry piles are modern art, and that fingerprints on the walls are the latest in interior design 🙂
What a bump!
Hi Joe, yup, getting bigger and bigger – if the bump is this big now, how big will it be in seven-ish more weeks? Yikes!
LOVE this latest post! So excited for you & Rob!!!!
Thanks Ryan – we are excited too – a new kind of creative endeavor, for sure 🙂 Sorry to miss your open studio – Rob said it was great!
Congrats!! That is super exciting news and such a fun way to share!
Thanks Danielle – had some version of this in draft mode for a while…wanted to wait til we were a little closer to post 🙂
I want to read the lease. Did it already start? I think as landlord you have a case that he has already been occupying the space, (whether he signed anything or not) and if he hasn’t paid anything yet, you should definitely be able to serve him with back rent, late fees, administrative charges, etc. This really is for his benefit – isn’t it best that he gets an idea of the way the real estate market works early on? My retirement plan is a running tab that I plan to present to the little squatters I have on my property when they turn 25. I will never have to work again.
Yes, I couldn’t agree more with all of this. We asked him to sign a lease but he claimed that he cannot write yet. All we got was some hiccups and a few spastic punches and kicks – I interpreted this as a rental agreement.
This little guy is very lucky to have you as parents. No doubt he will be handsome and clever too. I can’t wait to meet him.
Thank you Sherill 🙂 We can’t wait for him to meet you too! But I guess patience is a virtue… 🙂
What a fun way to make the announcement. Congratulations!!!
Thanks Paprika! You know I was giggling as I concocted this one 🙂
Such wonderful news, you’re creating a miracle ! I know of a lovely birthday on the 30th (mine) and, another on Epiphany (the 6th, my husband’s). I am partial to the 31st though as then, there’s always someone who’ll party with you 😉 As for lawn mowing, haven’t done one yet and I will be 4? soon … sorry about that. Ours is 7 and we love her more everyday. Beyond happy for you all.
Thanks very much! The due date is Dec 26, but we’ll see! I guess we’ll file this under “things we can’t control” 🙂
Wow!!! Congratulations, Jocelyn! 🙂 How EXCITING 🙂
This will be the shortest “someone else’s” pregnancy I’ve ever heard of. Love it!
Thanks Suzanne! Of course, it hasn’t seemed short from this end…but am attempting to occasionally think about/talk about/write about things other than bebe. We’ll see how much longer that lasts 🙂
Best baby reveal ever, congrats!!
Thanks D&D! Four weeks (more or less) before he moves in 🙂
